It was truly upset to know the news of Yasmin Ahmad had passed away. She was one of the local director that i respected for her creativity and also openness in social issue especially in races. She herself, married to a chinese husband, and she can speak simple cantonese. That's make her knows well in Chinese-Malay culture.
I started knowing her better when i watched "sepet" during my secondary school. I think it will be year 2005. That's the movie i think every Malaysian should watch, it's so real, meaningful and touching. Started to search more information about her after that. In sepet, The male actor in the movie even scold bad words like "cibai". it's a kind of expression i think and nothing's wrong to show it because in that scene, it is what should be happening and will be saying by the person.and that is art. Movie after that, is even banned due to our government said it's too sensitive.
Many of us, might don't know who is Yasmin Ahmad. but you guys surely watched before all her masterpiece TVC and ad during special festival like CNY, National day, Deepavali. Most of it, have a meaningful value in it, yet it is creative and touching.
